Before the Interview

  1. Be well groomed and have a professional appearance.  
  2. It is risky to dress too casual but you cannot dress too professional.
  3. A business suit is appropriate interview attire.
  4. Don't wear excessive makeup, perfume, and/or jewelry.
  5. Be prepared to specifically explain your experience and quantify your accomplishments.
  6. Have short and long term career goals relating to the opportunity you are interviewing for.
  7. Have questions prepared that deal with the opportunity's duties and responsibilities as well as the goals and plans of the department and the company.
  8. Develop, memorize and emphasize your strengths and match those strengths to what the employer is seeking.
  9. Know your weaknesses and what you have done to overcome them.  
  10. Know the position's duties, responsibilities and qualifications so you can emphasize related experiences.
  11. Read and re-read the interview preparation materials from us.   Make sure you understand everything completely.   If not, call us for clarification.
  12. Review the information on the interviewing company’s website thoroughly.
  13. Practice responses to questions you think you may be asked in front of a mirror, another person or better still, a voice recorder or a camcorder.
  14. If possible, give yourself an extra 30 minutes to arrive at the interview.   Use the extra time for unforeseen delays, interview preparation and arriving ten minutes early. If something unforeseen happens and being late is unavoidable, let the interviewer know via telephone and have a good reason why.
  15. Turn off any cell phones or pagers before the interview.
